Types of Ethical Dilemmas for Psychologists

Psychologists study behavior but that doesn’t mean that Psychologists are perfect and cannot have problems with their patients. Psychologists are just normal people who deal with different problems everyday.

Here are some of the Ethical Dilemmas that Psychologists experience:

Confidentiality: Psychologists should always keep all the conversations they have with their patients inside the four corners of their clinic. But, sometimes, because of too much weight put into them, psychologists are tempted to share stories in order for them to release all the stress put into them. The proper thing to do here is have an outlet in every situation they face, may it be through blogging, music or whatever except gossiping about it.

Conflct of Relationships: Psychologists like what I have said are normal people. They are able to connect with each of their patients or clients. Developing different kinds of feelings toward those clients is inevitable. That is either good or bad depending on how the Psychologist deal with it.

Payment: Like in any other field, Psychologists work for money. Let’s not be hypocrites and tell we work to JUST help, we all want to earn big time. Problems with patients who are not able to pay always occur. No matter how hard the situation is, if there is no money down, the services cannot be given. There comes a time when doctors pass their patients to others who would accept them even with no or low payment.

Forensic Psychology: As much as psychologists want balance in their work, forensic psychology forces them to just see one side of the picture. This happens in testifying different cases. Psychologists are only allowed to visit or take a look at one person’s point of view. They cannot see both pictures because it would be a harder situation.

Different problems occur in different situations. The only solution is to find good ways on how to deal with them and find balance in every dilemma.

Major Lessons learned in Philosophy

From the very start, we have been taught about so many things about Philosophy and Ethics. From its definition to different branches that deeply explain what this subject is all about.
There was this topic about who Man truly is. We understood how people see man in so many different ways. Different philosophers were also introduced to us. They took us to the different world that Philosophy and Ethics wanted us to explore. Relativisms were also part of this subject in which we fully understood the different cultures and how people from different races act and reason. Fallacies, this is one of the topics that I really enjoyed. This proved that man cannot always be perfect but man has flaws. We may have been given the gift of reasoning and free will but we are also allowed to commit mistakes when reasoning.
I won’t re-tell all the topics discussed in this subject but I will say one thing that I will never forget. Man should always think critically. Critical thinking will lead all of mankind into better reasoning. By that we will be able to avoid committing too much mistakes when we defend something or state something. We have gone through a lot of roads in talking about Philosophy but it all ends up with one thing, be CRITICAL THINKERS.

Human Person and Logical Fallacies

The Human person has been described as something that has dignity; something that can freely reason out; something that has free will. The human person was created by our one and only Father as the highest form of all His creations simply because the human person is capable of taking care, improving and maintaining what He has done in this world. The human person can be described in so many good ways but then there comes the Logical Fallacies.
The Logical Fallacies are the common mistakes that the human person commits when reasoning out. This just proves that though that human person was given the gift to reasoning, it is still open for mistakes. The human person is not perfect. Theses Logical fallacies come in different forms which states that man can reason wrongly in different ways. But these logical fallacies do not only say that the human person can make mistakes in reasoning out but also in understanding such phenomenon around.
The good description of the human person and the logical fallacies prove that the human person is made in a balanced way. Not perfect and not full of flaws. The human person may make mistakes but is also capable of redoing things and making it right.

Sam Harris: Science can answer moral questions

It was said that Science cannot answer things such as the meaning of life, meaning of death and so on. But this was also contradicted. It was said that science is truth and truth is always associated with what is going on in our lives. Regardless of religion or whatever we believe in.
I actually had a hard time understanding what the speaker wanted to point out. Why does everything need to be afflicted with science? Cannot science stand alone when in the first place it should be independent because everyone believes that anything that science states are true. Science cannot say something true if it is not proven so why do we still need to argue if science can answer moral questions?
Science may always prove things right but also it has its limitations. One of these limitations is that it cannot answer questions regarding the unimaginable phenomenon. Science already admitted that this thing is unexplainable and hard facts cannot be provided, so, what is the point of saying [non-stop] that science and morality has relations? Well, probably in some points they might have some relations but this is science. What science says is true [maybe] and we just needed to deal with it. Morality has its own principles that people who believe in it may have a different view in life. Science and Morality are two different things that explain different situations in life in separate point of views. These two give people options on what to believe in. morality is the part where we ask questions about our life and we almost all of the time find it so hard to answer. But that’s just how life is, if everything is put in front of us, where is the thrill of living it? We will just wait for answers to come and not find it ourselves.
I even read the comments in the video; some of them were kind of contradicting and gave their opinions. This is just what I did, I wanted to point something out and share my own perception.

Ciencia y Virtud

Centro Escolar University’s maxim is Ciencia y Virtud which simply means Science and Virtue.  This states that students of this university are not only trained in their academic aspects but also in Values Education. Not all universities offer this kind of learning experience. CEU makes sure that the students that they produce will not only bring pride and success to the country but will also contribute into spreading good values to every person they will come across with.
This is actually a good choice for a university maxim because it’s true that a good student will be a better citizen of this country if his/her academic performance was not the only thing monitored and improved during his/her college life but also the values part. The university’s goal is to have their students maintain a high standard of learning as well as a good principle to follow.
When a student constantly has a good principle and maintains the values learned at home and in school, he/she will be able to have a clear goal and have it achieved. This is what CEU wants their students to be like. College is never easy. There come all the hardships, challenges, tests and so on. Faith is actually tested in this stage of growing up. I said that because of all the things needed to be accomplished in college, students may tend to forget the main reason why they are in their position; that is God. I know that not all students studying in the university are Catholics but religion does not matter as long as students keep their minds set and virtues or values safely secured in the heart.
Truly anything is possible with the Almighty Father. Also, anything is possible if we believe so. We can do all things with the right decisions, right timing and faith in God and ourselves. That’s just so simple! Centro Escolar University did not want to have a maxim that is too complicated for students to follow. That’s it, Ciencia y Virtud or Science and Virtue. Very simple to understand and might as well follow. Students may have a hard time getting things accomplished but as long as this maxim will not be forgotten, graduating will be the one to easily reach out.
